Experience

A qualified teacher with 10 years` tutoring experience, I started to teach in 2006 during my first degree and have since developed a very successful practice offering tuition and academic mentoring of the very highest standards to clients in Oxford, London, Paris and further afield, working predominantly through word of mouth recommendations. I am proud of the consistently outstanding feedback I receive and am always delighted to provide references from former clients on request. I am experienced across a wide age range from 6 years old to 18+ with a comprehensive understanding of the national curriculum and exam boards from KS2 to A-Level, working with students with specific learning needs, the development of independent revision and study skills and effective learning strategies, and supporting students learning outside of mainstream education. My approach to teaching is kind, patient and professional, with the aim of building my students` confidence and equipping them with the skills to become effective and inquisitive independent learners. My teacher training and years of experience building upon this have given me a detailed understanding of `how learning happens` and as a result I offer thoughtfully structured sessions which are highly effective at generating understanding and efficient in their use of time. All this is achieved while working in a relaxed and positive atmosphere, with a detailed and personalised programme of study supporting individual lessons that are creative, inspiring, and above all attentive and responsive to my individual students` needs. I build strong professional relationships with clients, working closely with them to provide a personal service based on clear and effective communication, flexibility and the use of regular feedback and assessment. I count many former clients as personal friends, and often return again and again to work with siblings and other family members and friends. Since completing my PGCE, my interest in education has broadened into related areas. I am founder and coordinator of a music charity in Oxford, as well as working with several other not-for-profit educational projects and charities. SAMPLE TESTIMONIALS "It was quickly evident that Rupert had that elusive `something` that all great teachers have: the ability to capture, enlighten, narrate, and take the learner on a journey...." Mother of a Primary school student "Rupert realises that learning is understanding and doing, not being talked at, and he has integrated this realization into a highly-effective teaching style centred on the learner. He`s dependable, personable, and genuine. Any student lucky enough to work with him will thrive." Ex-professor and mother of an A-level student "Alongside his obvious talent as a teacher, Rupert is always extremely conscientious, punctual and polite. His gentle, caring manner and thoughtful teaching methods provided my son with the reassurance and guidance he needed to quickly get back into his stride." Mother of a Y8 student
