Education
I'm from Barcelona, Spain. I graduated from Universitat de Barcelona with a BA in English Philology. I minored in foreign language learning in a Teachers’ Training Course by the same university. Then I travelled to the USA to work as a Spanish Language Assistant in a Midwest liberal arts college and to take some courses on Language and Literature. I have always believed in the power of education. While still an undergrad I joined my hometown state’s primary school to teach 9-year-old students to communicate in English. It's there I discovered my passion for teaching. I found that learning is the foundation to succeeding in life and that is why working as a full-time teacher in a high school for the last 24 years has been so fulfilling and rewarding. In 2016 I decided to create my independent project, EnglishWithSophia, dedicated to promote the learning of English through the content Geography, Art, and History, and to créate my own resources. I would like to help everyone I can to succeed. In my high school, apart from the regular English lessons, I have developed tasks as a coach, and a new teachers’ mentor. When I teach I strive to communicate my passion for learning to my students, as well as show them how fun education can be. I have tricks like acronyms and stories to aid students in remembering the things they are learning. I am able to tutor in Spanish from elementary up through advanced, as well as English from elementary up through B2 level. I also teach humanistic subjects such as basic geography, art and history. I'm proficient enough to teach French 1-2, and also teach reading, writing, and study skills. In addition, I am able to assist in standardized test prep for the Cambridge First Certificate Exam.
Experience
I have a clear communicative teaching methodology designed for the online environment and for working with individual learners, which I believe to be the most effective method for developing confidence to speak Spanish and English. My mission is to upgrade my students’ everyday English and help them move forward in their careers.

I am an avid reader of historic novels and l love travelling and meeting new people. In my free time I regularly practice yoga and I am keen on having long walks with family and friends.
